The Research Department is the pillar of the corporation. It is responsible for driving innovation, scientific discovery, and narrative development within the facility.

Research & Development, and then what?

Unlike other 'Research' departments found on the ROBLOX platform, Research in BEXCO is concrete. Researchers are to produce actual research parpers using genuine research methodology, which then contributes meaningfully to the development of in-universe knowledge, assets, and future storylines.

Researchers collaborate through Research Units and Laboratories, cross-examinate and debate their papers, and specialize in many unique fields, which can include Asset Research (i.e. study of dinosaurs), Biology, Cognitive Sciences, Humanities, Computer Sciences, or Anomaly Research (e.g. Para-Archeology, Cryptozoology).

Research papers are published for the whole community and often serve as the foundation for events, administrative changes, and new lore elements. The Research Department plays a key role in keeping the world of BEXCO alive and evolving.

Becoming a fully-fledged Researcher involves gaining a PhD - a process that requires writing and defending an original thesis before the Research Board. Until then, you roleplay as a PhD Student assisting graduated Researchers while pursuing your degree. The journey can be demanding, but once completed, you'll earn the title of Doctor (with a graduation ceremony!) and unlock full research privileges.

Research Board

There is no single director overseeing the department. Instead, it is guided by the Research Board - professors who review proposals, supervise thesis defenses, and ensure scientific quality across all active projects. There are no fixed boundaries for what you can study, so long as it gets the green light from the Board (which, don’t worry - tends to be quite lenient).

Transfers

Once you've established yourself in the department, you can request Transfers to other departments, which acts as an opportunity to join a new department, bypassing ranks and be directly promoted to a new position. For example, you can join the Asset Welfare Department as a VPGY-2 Veterinarian, the Medical Department as a PGY-2 Resident, or the Maintenance Department as an Engineer.
